Never mind the Beach Boys, Dick Dale or the sand stomping legends of the surf guitar. Chairman Of The Board is a compilation of rare surf soundtracks all but lost to the genre that created it.

Surfing is full of 'golden eras' and the one between 1964 to 1974 was a time when film directors immersed in the surfing culture commissioned original music for their cinematic creations.

From 60s beats to stoner rock, a psychedelic pulse breathed energy into a giant screen sized tube ride and surfers had a soundtrack that beautifully reflected the barefoot roots of their lifestyle.

Over 30 years has passed since this golden era. Unfortunately many of these surf soundtracks have fallen between the gaps of both psychedelia and the sport itself and have gone unnoticed until now.

By the end of the 60s, surfing, its film makers and audiences had all "tuned in" to the high tide of counter culture. Musician Dennis Dragon recorded a band called Farm for George Greenough's film The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun (1970) and paints a picture of what this surf film/music scene was like. "I was mind-blown!" exclaims Dragon, commenting on the slow motion wide angle shots from deep inside the tube on Greenough's film.

Dragon recorded the live sessions, 4 of which are featured on Chairman Of The Board, including the epic 15 minute ride entitled 'The Coming of the Dawn'. "I remember when recording this track and Greenough saying, "Gimme more throb!"" says Dragon. "I cranked up the bass and they kicked in more Farfisa organ bottom end."

Only a thousand copies of the original album were pressed. Now you too can hear the 'Innermost Limits of Pure Fun' and 19 others from a variety of different surf films... Just don't mention the beach boys!
